Skipton, Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales

5 things to do and see in Skipton - Skipton Canal Basin

Well here’s a pic of ‘sunny’ Skipton canal basin in beautiful North Yorkshire.

Well, it was sunny for a little while, even with this dark cloud in the sky but it just seems to be going right over us atm and not doing much else. It makes for a fab photo over the canal basin and buildings though!

Skipton is a lovely little market town known as the ‘Gateway to the Dales’ and for good reason too! It’s right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales! Because of its location it’s extremely popular with people making it their base to then go explore the Dales. It’s also a great place to shop with all of its little boutique shops, restaurants and oodles of great coffee shops! For market lovers it’s got one one that runs 4 days a week – Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat.

You can also find Skipton Castle at the top end of town. This is one of the best preserved medieval castles in the UK. It’s ‘only’ around 900 years old! Running around the side of the castle you will also find beautiful Skipton Woods. Here is where you can take a lovely walk which should take about an hour or so.

At Skipton Canal Basin you can take a canal boat ride if you’re so inclined, though perhaps not today, just in case that cloud does decide to do something after all.

Do you live in or visit Skipton? What do you like most about the town and why?
