Hand-Made Pottery Shop

Today we came across an amazing hand-made pottery shop in Grassington on our ‘7th Wedding Anniversary’! More on this fabulous find shortly but our first stop in the village was for a coffee and a spot of lunch at the Retreat Coffee Shop & Bistro. This is a great place to go for lunch which I’ve written about previously here.

After finishing lunch we decided to take a walk around the village and I’m so glad we did as we discovered this rather lovely pottery shop that we’d never noticed before. It’s tucked away down this little arched laneway (next to the Hardware Shop) which leads you into a delightful little place! We love finding new shops to visit and what a great find on our anniversary! 😍

Pottery Products

Everything on show at the Courtyard Pottery is made by David Ashby in his studio on the premises and there is always something to see at various stages of production – from the throwing through to the finished article.

Whilst he also creates studio ceramics to exhibit in various venues throughout the country, the shop predominantly displays a wide range of wheelthrown tableware and terracotta kitchenware. He creates really unique lampshades too and even has a range of gift cards.

David is a guy with a very beautiful and unique design style. All of his pieces are wheel thrown and slip decorated with a mixture of wax resist, inlaid colours and scraffito….how cool do they all look!!! 😲

Spoilt for Choice

The Courtyard Pottery is a great place to begin a collection of unique handmade kitchenware from jugs and bowls to butterdishes, mugs and vases. You could find pretty much everything you need for your kitchen right here in David’s shop.

I bought myself this fab little coffee mug and I’m definitely going back one day as I have my eye on another one of his beautiful scraffito coffee mugs. Oh! And don’t think hubby missed out either…he got exactly what he wanted which happened to be a new Apple Watch. 😜

So…if you happen to be into pottery at all I highly recommend a visit to David’s hand-made pottery shop. You can often see him demonstrating his skills in the studio next to the shop which is really cool to watch! 😀

Well, what a lovely ‘7th wedding anniversary‘ day trip we had, finished off with a beautiful log fire at home to relax with whilst watching TV. 🔥 😍

What did you get up to today?
